GUITAR ARTWORK

A London-based luthier was crafting a set of retro, Hawaii inspired guitars and wanted to add some illustrative details. I chose to design artwork for these guitars using the iconic state flower of Hawaii, the hibiscus.

A custom scratch plate was screen printed and given a gloss coating before being attached to the final Fender guitar body.

  • Design

    The unique shape of a scratch plate allowed me to create a playful arrangement of hibiscus flowers.

  • Layered Flowers

    Each hibiscus flower was layered onto the scratch plate via screen printing techniques.

  • Pearl Scratch Plate

    I screen printed each flower twice to create a very subtle raised effect on the bright white pearl scratch plate.

  • Hawaii Inspired

    To match the sea foam green color of the guitar body, I chose to color the flowers using a retro palette.

  • Colors

    Each flower color was hand mixed to create shades that complemented the guitar.

Fliski guitars.

Additionally, I created the branding for the luthier, David Fliski. The logo design is hand illustrated to represent the craftsmanship required to build guitars. The fluid style of the logo is a nod to the motion of strumming guitar strings. Fliski Guitar branding was used on guitar heads, laser-cut pearl inlays and ink stamps.
